On Beautiful Cardigan Bay

The following gallery of images are from a trip our family took along our local coastline on Cardigan Bay, one Monday in early September 2013.

On this trip we saw no sign of the many Dolphins who live in these waters, but then we knew it would be pot luck if we did. Click PLAY > to start.

        Local Beaches and Tourist Spots

Looking towards Cardigan Island and Gwbert from Poppit Sands. The water is fairly shallow until some way out, but the waves can be strong at times.

In the sea at Poppit.

Rock pools at Poppit when the tide goes out.e is out.

A Life Guard on duty at Poppit.

Looking for sea creatures in the Rock pools at Poppit when the tide is out.

Part of Aberporth Beach from the Car Park.  A popular family beach. Very busy in the summer season

Tide right out at Poppit with a piece of timber deposited from up river. Good walking beach.

More to come, including images of  Penbryn, Llangranog, Newquay, Mwnt, Tresaith, Newport.

Plus images of  Dams and reservoirs to visit for a picnic full day out.

POPPIT SANDS- 3 Miles from Cardigan Town Centre.

Views of  Poppit Sands, below, from the Gwbert headland. (Left) Just two miles along the estuary of the River Teify near Cardigan.

One of Wales’s best kept secrets. You only know about this beach if you have been here. It rarely gets mentioned in travel guides because we are not in a well known  tourist “hot spot”.  Thank goodness we don’t have a Motorway within 50 miles. Just winding main roads through wooded hills and mountains from Carmarthen 30 miles away.

This vast un-spoilt and un-commercialised flat  Sandy “Blue Flag” Beach is very popular in the summer.

But there is usually  plenty of room for all.

We suggest you take a Windbreak in case the wind gets up.

Rock Pools at the southern end. Sand Dunes along the full length. Plenty of room for walking and riding. Popular with Power Kite Flyers when the tide is out.    Dogs restricted to one part of the beach. Keep your dogs under control here.

Car Park. Set back 75Mtrs from the beach. Toilets located behind Lifeboat Station

Fee applies from April 1st  to October 31st  via an attendant up to about 4pm. Overflow parking  in a field if it gets very busy in peak season.

£1 for an hour, £3 for three hours, £5 all day. No attendant after 5pm.

RNLI Life Boat Station and gift shop.

Inshore Lifeboat practice can frequently be observed.

Life Guard service with Safety Flags in main season.

Cafe in the car park.

Two panoramic Views of Poppit across the Teivy Estuary from the cliffs at Gwbert
